Construction is scheduled to begin in 30 days to install a cable barrier on New Circle Road. That would have prevented an accident Wednesday that killed a Lexington resident. According to police a blue Dodge Durango crossed the median and struck a silver Nissan Altima killing the driver of the Altima.

"Yesterday, a state transportation spokesman discussed a project to install barriers designed to prevent vehicles from crossing the median of New Circle. Had the system been in place yesterday, "It would have prevented the vehicle from crossing over the median and entering the inner loop," said David Thacker, spokesman for District 7 of the state Transportation Cabinet.
A $2.5 million contract was awarded last week to install the barriers along a large portion of New Circle Road, including the area where yesterday's accident occurred. Construction will begin in the next 30 days, and the project is expected to be finished in the summer, Thacker said."
