Accident Claims One Life In Letcher County

Saturday morning around 9 a.m. on highway 15 a vehicle driven by a 72-year-old from Sassafras crossed into the path of a coal truck, striking it head on. The 72-year-old was killed. The coal truck overturned after skidding several hundred feet and burst into flames. The driver was able to escape the truck and as only treated for minor injuries at Whitesburg Hospital. The highway was closed for much of the day while the oil and fuel spill from the truck was cleaned up.
