Kentucky Emergency Responders Need Greater Protection

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich recently signed Shibs Law. This allows for greater protection for Emergency Responders in Illinois. The bill honored fallen Firerfighter James "Shib" Miller.

The point that I was trying to make was that Kentucky must act quickly to enact a similar bill. We must not wait until tragedy strikes to update our laws protecting our Emergency Responders.

James "Shib" Miller was killed just over one year ago on Intersate 57 in Illinois. He was responding to a Semi Tractor Trailer Fire when he was hit by a Greyhound Bus. Shib's Law now makes it possible for Emergency Responders to close down Highways and Interstates in order to ensure safety.

Miller's Family fought hard to have this legislation passed. They wanted to see greater protection for Emergency Responders while they were in Harms Way. Although Miller's death left a void in their life that can never be filled, this legislation serve as a tribute to their Fallen Hero. It is their hopes that this will never happen to anyone else again.
