Kentucky Motorcyclist Struck And Killed By SUV

A Highland Heights man was killed Friday night when his motorcycle was struck by an SUV.

The accident happened just after 10:00 p.m. when Michael Sams, 35, rear-ended a Yamaha motorcycle with his SUV near mile marker 16 on Interstate 65, according to Kentucky State Police.

Charles Shrive, 63, was thrown from his bike and run over by Sams, who fled the scene. Witnesses followed after Sams and he was later detained by Kentucky troopers.

Sams has been charged with second-degree manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and aggravated DU, troopers said.

According to the most recent state statistics, there were 2,109 motorcycle crashes in Kentucky in 2008. 102 of them resulted in fatalities.
