Kentucky Court Refuses To Allow Lesbian Adoptions

The same appeals court that would not allow lesbian partners to adopt children, allowed a pair to keep their child after one of them was artificially inseminated.

The ruling noted that stepparent adoptions are only allowed when the stepparent is married to the other biological parent. It also noted that same-sex marriages are not allowed in Kentucky.

Uninsured Young Adults Taking Big Risk

An article on KaiserNetwork.org tells us that the Courier Journal reports on the many uninsured adults of Kentucky (and Indiana).

Anywhere from a quarter, to a third, of the Adults are insured… leaving about 394,000 people around ages 20 and 30 without medical insurance. The Courier Journal tells us a few reasons for the high insurance rates for this particular group.

Staph Infection Takes Life of 14-Year Old Girl

School Officials sent home letters to all parents of George Rogers Clark County High School about the death of a 14-year old girl.

Mckenna Brooke Hatchett died from a Staph Infection. Officials aren’t sure what strand of Staph it was or where the girl got it. All areas of the school that Mckenna came into contact with have been scrubbed with antibacterials.

Bipolar Disorder Linked To Older Fathers

A recent study, published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, tells us that not only is the mother an important factor in having a healthy baby, but so is the father.

Scientists involved in a Swedish study have found that men over 55 have a 37% chance of having a child who will develop Bipolar Disorder, also known as manic-depressive syndrome, as compared to men who father a child in their 20s.

The disease tends to develop anywhere from late adolescence to early adulthood and can now be linked to the genetic makeup of the father.

Ryan Rendleman Will Graduate From Southern Illinois University Posthumously

Ryan Rendleman will Graduate from Southern Illinois University Posthumously on Saturday. Rendleman was killed in by an Illinois Tractor Trailer last week when the truck slammed into the back of his car while he was stopped in a construction zone. The driver had said that he was looking down and didn't notice that traffic was stopped.

Rendleman's brother Nick will accept his degree for him. Ryan Rendleman was 22 and was from Batvia.

Draffenville Kentucky Man Injured in Two Car Collision Tuesday Morning

Mark Edward of Gilbertsville and Jordan Travis on Draffenville were involved in an early morning Kentucky Car Wreck on Tuesday.

The wreck happened when Edwards disobeyed a stop sign and failed to yield the right of way to the sixteen year old Travis. Travis was taken to the Marshall County Hospital.

Semi Truck Accident Closes North Bound Lanes of Purchase Parkway

The north bound lanes of Purchase Parkway are now open after being closed for most of the morning. The driver of a semi truck carrying rice hulls fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to overturn and spill its contents onto the highway. Officials spent most of the morning moving the wreckage and cleaning up the rice hulls to ensure safety for oncoming motorists.
