A recorder was recovered from the train, and hopefully clues will be found as to why the CSX train derailed in Bullitt County yesterday. This was the second major train wreck for CSX in less than 24 hours in Kentucky. The other train wreck was in Irvine, Kentucky and happened Monday when four runaway rail cars traveled 20 miles before crashing into two parked rail cars. In the Bullitt County Crash twenty-eight people have been treated for respiratory distress and eye irritations according to hospital officials.

"The age of the cars involved in yesterday's derailment near Brooks wasn't known. The 80-car train included three cars of liquid propane, as well as chemicals and other highly flammable materials.

In 2002 CSX agreed to pay $220 million to settle a lawsuit involving 9,000 people who lived in a 150-block neighborhood of New Orleans that was virtually destroyed in 1987 when a toxic chemical leaked from a train car that had derailed. "
