The CSX train derailment in Bullitt County in January was caused by a broken bolt on a freight car. The broken bolt caused the car not to steer properly and caused it to jump the track on a curve near Brooks, Ky. The freight car is owned by a CSX customer but the railroad is responsible for the maintenance and safe operation of it. The crash forced an estimated 500 people from their homes. Some of which have yet to return.

"Bill Sutherland, who with his wife Lillian was displaced for 10 weeks while their home was cleaned and decontaminated, said the railroad's findings are little consolation.
"Everything is still turned upside down," said Sutherland, who moved back in last weekend. "We are in a big mess."
