In the first update since early March when the CDC said there were 425 cases confirmed of salmonella in 44 states the number has risen by more than 200 according to officials Thursday. It now in includes cases in 47 states, the only states not reporting any illnesses are Utah, New Hampshire and Hawaii. Since the recall the CDC reported a substantial drop in salmonella cases. Wal-Mart has continued to sell it's Great Value brand but Peter Pan has not been returned to stores yet. ConAgra believes moisture in the plant in Sylvester, Ga. likely helped the salmonella bacteria to grow and later infect the product that sickened hundreds of people.
