Two women filed suit in GA over ObTape brand vaginal slings made by Mentor Corporation. They claim it caused multiple surgeries to try to correct the complications caused by the sling and the device failed to cure their urinary stress incontinence. They claim it caused severe erosion of the vaginal wall after it was implanted, and also symptoms of bleeding, discomfort and lesions. Attorneys for the women say there are other devices out there that address urinary incontinence but none seem to have the high incidence of injury and defects that this particular product has.

The lawsuit was filed in Athens Clarke County Superior Court this week, and the attorneys predicted there will be other lawsuits targeting the product.

Garrard said, "We hope that by lawsuits and frankly the power of the press that message gets across. This is not an isolated utilization of this product ... This should not happen."
