Many people think they do not have to wear protective headgear in Kentucky. However there are some exceptions to that perception. Anyone who is under the age of 21 operating a motorcycle, or who is a passenger on a motorcycle or in a side car attachment, anyone with an instructional permit, or held a valid motorcycle license for less than a year, must wear protective headgear. All are to use an approved eye protective device when the vehicle is in motion.
These are just a few of the things found on the Kentucky Department of Transportation website. We urge all people to use protective gear, especially the use of helmets. According to the Kentucky State Police there have been 62 motorcycle fatalities this year and of those 38 were not wearing helmets.
