Sunday morning around 1:15 am on U.S. 27 near Bryantsville in Garrard County a Garrard County government vehicle, a 1997 Chevy Tahoe, driven by the county's emergency management director, crossed the median and a 1995 pickup truck tried to avoid it. The other driver swerved into the northbound lane but the Tahoe crossed back over also and struck the pickup. The pickup caught fire, a passenger was removed by bystanders and taken to University of Kentucky Hospital. The driver was unable to be rescued and died at the scene still trapped in the burning truck. The driver of the Tahoe was also taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital.
